Transplant I (Buffalo with Water Birds)
This work is part of the “Transpositions” series, which explores the idea of dual homelands by placing designs from ancient Dong-Son bronze drums into the milieu of a Texas landscape.
Year: 2023
Medium: Acrylic & embossed aluminum on canvas
Size: 16 x 20 inches (18 x 22 with frame)
“Transplant I” sets loose a charming Asiatic water buffalo and its avian companions—loosely based on drum motifs of pelicans and cattle egrets—into the backdrop of a Texas prairie pothole, a small but ecologically complex type of wetland that can form in freshwater-collecting depressions. The scene is hemmed in with regal Texas pine trees and alligator-flag plants in full bloom.
This painting is framed (no glass) and wired, and is ready to hang.
