She’s a winner, folks!

Profile II won FIRST PLACE in the 19+ age bracket at Viet Cultural Fest 2023!

Those of you who follow me on Instagram or Facebook already know this series is deeply personal to me, so it was incredibly gratifying to get not only exposure but also recognition from my exact target audience, other Vietnamese Americans. To quote a kind soul who reached out to me about this painting, I hope many people saw it and felt seen.

Of course, I owe a big debt of gratitude to Thomas Tran and the Houston chapter of the Vietnamese Culture and Science Association (VCSA), who organized the art competition, as well as the jurors and volunteers whose time and talent made it happen. Thank you all!

(Profile of a Young Vietnamese Woman II)

Acrylic on canvas
24 x 18 x 0.75 inches

You can view the shop listing here and the “making-of” video on Instagram.

Some fun Easter eggs:

  • The name of the shop, "Quê Hương," means "homeland" in Vietnamese. (Please do note that they are closed for business.)

  • My favorite little detail is in the top right corner of the poster: PBN stands for Paris By Night, of course, and PBN #90 was titled Chân Dung Người Phụ Nữ Việt Nam [Profile of the Vietnamese Woman]. It was actually a fantastic show that celebrated the achievements of an impressively diverse range of women!
